LETTERS FROM MADELYN
Chronicles of a Caregiver
By Elaine K. Sanchez

Letters from Madelyn, Chronicles of a Caregiver is a true story, as told through the letters of a Kansas farm woman who overpowers her own failing health with faith, humor, and sheer determination in order to care for her husband after he suffers a debilitating stroke. Madelyn's letters to her daughter deal with the grim reality of aging, illness, and long-term caregiving, and yet they are tender, gritty, and uproariously funny. She questions the Bible, challenges convention, and rails against the manufacturers of adult diapers. Five years after Quentin's stroke, she handles his reawakening sexual desire with grace and humor. Letters from Madelyn proves that a person can grow personally and spiritually under the worst of circumstances even when a loved one's life is not ending easily.

Silverton's Bobbie
His Amazing Journey - The True Story
Text by Judith Kent - Illustrations by Gene Nelson

Back in the 1920's, a farm collie named Bobbie performed a homing feat of such great distance and elapsed time, that all who heard of it were skeptical. They just couldn't believe it. Imagine, a dog lost in unfamiliar territory, travelling approximately 2,500 miles over a period of 6 months to reach his master and home.

However, as documentation after documentation began to show up, the amazing journey was finally validated. It has stood the test of time and to this day remains unchallenged as the most outstanding feat in all of dogdom. Lassie and many others have accomplished homing instinct treks, but all pale in comparison to that of Silverton's Bobbie.

As news of this slowly made its way around the country and the world, there were many stories and accounts that were, to say the least, stretched a bit, including a Hollywood style book, which did not even profess to be true.

This led author, Judith Kent to revive this outstanding event, so much a part of Silverton's history. Her book is timed to correspond with Silverton's 150th Anniversary this year. A bronze of Bobbie has been commissioned and will find a permanent home at The Oregon Garden in Silverton.
